My campfire memories are of making campfire stew.
It always tastes better outdoors.

Campfire girls gave me a love for the outdoors and instilled in me an independent spirit. I have traveled the world since being a Campfire Girl and can trace back zest for adventure to the many experiences I got to have as a Campfire Girl.

Some of my favorite memories of my youth involve Camp Fire.  I spend many summers at Camp Kotami in Colorado.  I talk to my girls about sleeping the teepees and tents, going on snipe hunts, sing in the lodges, playing in Little Niagra, and hiking to Paul's Meadow.  I also did several horse camps and remember the long rides in the red, white and blue bus.  I even remember my camp name, Pickles.  I still have my gown with all the patches and beads.  I loved Camp Fire and would love to find something like it for my girls.

Its been my pleasure to serve on the board for over 2 years. The staff and volunteers of the Balcones Council USA do an amazing job of connecting kids to the out doors!

Both my parents were involved in the Camp Fire program for over 25 years and were recognized in the national magazine during the 1970's.  Myself and my three sisters all completed the Camp Fire Girl program.  I attended the same Camp Fire camp for 13 years—from camper, to c.i.t., to staff until it closed in 1976.  I renewed my interest in Camp Fire when my daughter entered kindergarten, both celebrating 10 years in the Camp Fire USA program.  I was her leader for 4 years, and she has been independent since then—currently working on her wo-he-lo award.  In total, my family members have completed 100 years in the Camp Fire program:

May & Jim Riback:  25 years each (50)
Rene Riback:  10 years youth & 10 years leader (20)
Shelly (Riback) Thompson:  10 years-sister
Becky (Riback) McCall: 10 years-sister
Lauren Riback: 10 years-daughter

This photo is of my daughter and I at the last council fire we attended after she received several torchbearer awards.
